Social Niceties

I got engaged last week. Yay! Not a huge surprise (have been with the boyfriend 5+ years now) but still a happy thing. I was chatting with a friend over the weekend about wedding registries and confessed that I have no clue what to register for. I have every kitchen gadget known to man already. I'm not terribly excited at the idea of matching guest towels. So now I am wondering: registering for horse stuff, kosher or not? Can I surreptitiously slip my Smartpak wishlist in with the invitations? (okay, fine, I wouldn't really do that, but it does seem like a waste of a gift-giving opportunity if I don't ask for something horsey...)

  1. Congrats! I'm sure your horsey friends would be quite happy to gift you something horsey as opposed to matching towel sets. :)

  2. Congratulations! I'm sure getting some horsey stuff given to you will help with the financial part of early married life? Go for it ;)

  3. Registering for things your spouse will not also enjoy? Maybe not the best idea :D Though, certainly a new pair of breeches would be better than an ugly vase from Aunt Beatrice. Which, leads me to advice given when I was registering for things: always put on a vase, a picture frame and a pair of candlesticks on. Why? Because someone is going to give them to you whether you want them or not, so put something you like on your registry and hopefully you'll just end up with the 1.

I have a friend that when she got married she and her spouse to be didn't need a single thing. So they registered for people to give them things to do on their honeymoon, like in their case entrance tickets to museums and guides for back country hiking.

  4. Congratulations!
I don't know if you can swing horse stuff on the registry, unless you both ride? We registered for (and got) camping gear. Some activity you do together could give you ideas to upgrade gear. A friend of mine had a few board games on her registry, that's an idea too.

And I agree with Pam, you're going to get a vase or something of that sort so might as well pick one out that you like to add on your list.
